Tata Steel Foundation Dedicates New Anganwadi Centre to the Residents of Ghatisahi in Kalinganagar

Tata Steel Foundation dedicated a new Anganwadi Centre to the residents of Ghatisahi, Ranagundi Panchayat, Danagadi Block, on Tuesday. The initiative aims to improve early childhood nutrition and maternal health in the predominantly SC/ST community, comprising approximately 80 households.

The inauguration was attended by Sudhir Mehta, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Neelachal Ispat Nigam Ltd (NINL), Tushar Jena, Sarpanch, Ranagundi Panchayat, Nandini Prabha Lenka, (Child Development Project Officer ) CDPO, Danagadi Block, and Debanjan Mukherjee, Head, Impact Cluster, Kalinganagar, Tata Steel Foundation, along with Anganwadi workers, children, and community members from nearby villages.

Speaking on the occasion, Sudhir Mehta, MD & CEO of NINL, stated, NINL and Tata Steel Foundation prioritize working with underprivileged women and children in the area. This new Anganwadi center is one of many initiatives aimed at that goal. This centre will ensure the all-round development of the targeted community and will be an asset for future generations.

The Foundation’s construction of this Anganwadi Centre addresses the pressing need for instilling the significance of nutrition in early childhood and maternal health through regular counselling. Previously, the use of a distant local club house as an Anganwadi Centre resulted in decreased participation, a challenge that the new, accessible facility resolves.

The Foundation’s Poshan team closely works with anganwadi workers to promote positive health-seeking behaviors and is actively involved in mobilising the community and raising nutritional awareness through initiatives like kitchen gardens. The new anganwadi centre is an extension of this collaborative effort.

Anganwadi centres, under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) scheme, are crucial in improving the health and nutrition of children aged 0-6 years.
